The Retrofit Process

The Retrofit Process - Pennington Choices

The importance of accurate data

Data is the foundation of any successful retrofit project. With accurate data, developed through a robust understanding of your stock condition and current energy performance, you can build a clear roadmap for an effective retrofit project. Appointing third-party experts to support with data collection, validation, and remediation is vital for ensuring accuracy and is a critical next step in your retrofit strategy.

  • Extrapolate Data: Use collected data to inform the Retrofit Design and Retrofit Coordinator process.
  • Generate Retrofit Measures: Develop and implement retrofit measures based on accurate data, ensuring effective planning and execution of retrofit works.
  • Post-Retrofit Measures: Conduct post-retrofit evaluations to verify that all work has been carried out correctly and delivers the required outcomes.

Retrofit FAQs

What is a Retrofit Assessor?

What is a Retrofit Assessor?

Retrofit Assessors evaluate the property’s energy efficiency and identify improvement areas before retrofit improvement works can be carried out. In accordance with PAS 2035, the assessor will undertake a Retrofit Assessment which includes:

  • Occupant Assessment
  • Condition Assessment
  • EPC Survey

Retrofit Assessors play a key role in the PAS 2035 process, collecting and producing data that Retrofit Coordinators use to create improvement plans.

What is a Retrofit Coordinator?

What is a Retrofit Coordinator?

The role of the Retrofit Coordinator is now mandatory on all PAS 2035-compliant retrofit projects and is an important role to understand when developing a project under any government-funded scheme. Accessing funding from the government requires the use of PAS 2035; therefore, the Retrofit Coordinator is essential. The Retrofit Coordinator will manage a project from start to finish, working in collaboration with the other retrofit members to ensure the project runs smoothly to completion.

What is the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF)?

What is the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF)?

The previous government pledged to provide £3.8bn for the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) over a 10-year period. This was to improve the low energy performance of social housing, in line with the government Net Zero 2050 goal. The SHDF aims to provide warm, energy-efficient homes that reduce carbon emissions and energy bills, helping to tackle fuel poverty and support green jobs in the community. Applications for the SHDF Wave 3 are set to open in summer 2024, with successful applicants announced in Autumn 2024.
