IDS manage around 1,500 properties in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Southwark, Camden, Haringey, Redbridge, Barnet and Hertsmere. The housing stock includes flats, houses, sheltered housing, accommodation for people with special needs, as well as a number of shared ownership properties. IDS currently employ over fifty staff, including residentially-based teams.

The Challenge

Following a strategic review, IDS had decided to appoint a permanent Director of Technical Services to lead its compliance, asset management and repairs functions. IDS appointed our people resourcing experts who, following a briefing meeting with the Chief Executive, authored the job description that represented the organisation, the job purpose and its responsibilities. We also determined a person specification that reflected the required skills and competences, as well as identifying the key personal traits that would ensure a fit to the company’s culture.

What We Did

Following the client’s approval of the job briefing document, we established the parameters for a dedicated search. We researched the market to identify candidates, made personal approaches to those selected, engaged interested people in dialogue and arranged interviews locally, to suit the individual’s availability and optimise the response.

From these initial interviews, we presented our recommendations including CVs on a strong shortlist. We undertook reference checks and confirmed that all candidates had the appropriate eligibility documentation. We agreed and arranged the client’s interview schedule in advance, then provided the recruitment and property experts to accompany and support the company’s board through the two-stage interview and presentation process.

Our Achievements

The client was able to select a high calibre individual whose experience fulfilled the brief and who demonstrated the personal qualities that suited the organisation’s culture. We managed the offer and acceptance, including supporting the appointee through the resignation process.
